In summer 2015, PACT’s camp programs and activities will again be located on the island of Korcula, Croatia. Our usual Balkan Camp for children (ages 11-14), will be revised and enhanced by our new PACT SEAS program, and to promote environmental awareness through marine education. Many of the children coming to camp still live in orphanages or refugee camps. Some lost family members in the war, and almost all have witnessed violence, in the lingering divisions between ethnic groups. At PACT camps, children participate in a community that values mutual respect and teaches nonviolent means of conflict resolution.
The Global Youth Leadership Summit (GYLS), hosted by American PACT volunteers will as always bring together teens (ages 15-17) and adult participants from various at-risk populations such as the Balkans, Northern Ireland, South Africa, Israel/Palestine and Los Angeles, California. In 2013, our GYLS program plans to include participants from Uganda, and will incorporate aspects of our new PACT SEAS program experiential activities focus on decreasing some of the effects of intolerance and increasing cultural understanding. Teens actively engage with their peers in learning conflict resolution skills, and help to plan future PACT programs, with the vision of becoming "ambassadors of peace" in their own regional home communities.
